Focus

Alec Mendoza serves as a Policy Advisor at Texas 2036, where he focuses on improving healthcare affordability and access statewide. In this role, he supports the development and execution of Texas 2036’s healthcare policy strategy, driving efforts that foster market reforms and ensure Texans have access to high-quality, affordable care.

Impact

At Texas 2036, Alec’s work includes efforts to:

• Improve healthcare affordability: Develop policy solutions that strengthen competition and transparency and address the prices and costs driving healthcare spending.
• Expand access to health coverage: Develop strategies to connect eligible Texans to existing coverage and expand workable insurance options for individuals and employers.
• Improve value in health benefits: Examine opportunities to use better data, purchasing strategies and benefit design to lower healthcare costs and improve the value Texans receive from their coverage, including efforts to make health benefits more affordable for Texas teachers.

Past Experience

Alec Mendoza joined Texas 2036 after serving as a Senior Health Policy Associate at Texans Care for Children, where he worked with the Texas Legislature, state agencies and stakeholders to advance healthcare and expand access to coverage for Texas families and children.

Before that, Alec spent three legislative sessions in the office of state Sen. José Menéndez, D-San Antonio. He helped work on more than 20 pieces of legislation focused on mental health, education, health insurance and local funding.

In his free time, Alec enjoys spending time with family and friends, trying different coffee shops, further exploring his hometown of Austin, and cheering on the Longhorns, Spurs and Cowboys.
