Renzo Soto

Deputy Director, Education and Workforce Policy

Focus

Renzo’s work covers K-12 and AI policy, with a focus on school finance, assessment and accountability, and the intersection between technology and education. He joined Texas 2036 in August 2021 as a Policy Advisor and returned as Deputy Director in January 2026. He has since provided guidance on the implementation of higher education and workforce legislation passed in the 2021 Legislative Session, including community college finance reform and the establishment of the state’s first-ever workforce development strategic plan by the Tri-Agency Workforce Initiative.

Prior Work Experience

Most recently, Renzo returned to Texas 2036 after serving as Executive Director for Texas and the South for TechNet where he advocated on behalf of over 100 dynamic American businesses. In this role, he worked to promote the growth of innovation in six states and Puerto Rico through a targeted policy agenda, including artificial intelligence, data privacy, and cybersecurity.

Renzo was also a staff member in the Texas House of Representatives. He began as a Legislative Aide for Representative Armando Walle in 2017, and after a brief stint in the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., he returned to the Texas House to serve as Legislative Director for Representative Donna Howard. Renzo covered a variety of issues with a focus on the state budget, education, and healthcare.
