A Historic Step
Texans have taken a historic step toward securing our water future with the passage of Proposition 4. Thanks to the voters’ support, Texas now has a long-term financial strategy to build the water supplies needed for a drought-prone and growing state, fix our leaking water systems, and protect communities and lives from floods.
Tuesday’s vote reflects Texans’ concerns about their water. Texas 2036’s 8th Texas Voter Poll found that 85% of Texans were concerned about water shortages due to drought, leaking pipes, and population growth. A strong majority of voters supported the creation of a long-term state financial strategy to increase our water supplies and fix aging infrastructure. Tuesday’s outcome reflects Texas voters’ concerns, and their interest in investing in solutions.
This historic vote on water infrastructure funding unlocks a new era of water infrastructure development in Texas. It reflects bold, decisive leadership on the part of both Texas leaders and voters to tackle our long-term water infrastructure challenges with vigor. Proposition 4’s passage sends a bright, Lone Star-strength signal of the investment Texas is prepared to make to support families, communities, and businesses through the development of water infrastructure needed for the 21st century.
