Carlo Castillo is a data analyst for Texas 2036. He specializes in using program data and stakeholder input to guide the strategic direction of organizations.

Prior Work Experience

Carlo Castillo is a proud Native Texan, born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. Prior to joining Texas 2036, Carlo worked as a policy and data analyst in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education (DME) in Washington, DC where he used national research and local attendance data to guide the city’s investments in reducing chronic absenteeism among K-12 students. In his time with DME, chronic absenteeism in the District of Columbia decreased by 18% and truancy decreased by 28%.

Carlo also worked as a data analyst at the Office of the State Superintendent of Education, where he was responsible for reporting on key metrics related to school attendance, special education learners, English language learners, and students experiencing homelessness.

Carlo previously worked at community-based organizations in Washington, DC where he was responsible for working with program leaders to define and measure success of their programs. While in graduate school, Carlo worked at a research center where he managed an evaluation of pre-K programs in the Austin Independent School District. Carlo also served as an Education Pioneers Fellow and an AmeriCorps VISTA member, where he discovered an interest in supporting organizations working to transform education and life outcomes of all students.

He earned his Master of Public Affairs and Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Texas at Austin. He resides in Austin, where he enjoys running around Lady Bird Lake and spending time with his friends, family and dog, Oso.
