Texas 2036 uses data, research, and leading expertise to enable Texans to make informed decisions to ensure our state continues to be the best place to live and do business through its bicentennial in 2036 and beyond. Texas 2036 is achieving this mission through the creation of robust data resources, a long term state policy strategic framework, and a statewide, nonpartisan coalition of Texans advocating for meaningful long-term policy solutions. Summary
The Texas 2036 Data Team, led by the Vice President of Data and Analytics, implements a robust vision for the use of data in guiding state policy and develops the Texas 2036 digital data experience, including the Texas 2036 data platform and reporting tools. The Data Team seeks a Data Analyst, with preference for a background in education or workforce, who is interested in using their data skills to directly shape policy and public opinion on the topics that impact the future of Texas.
The Data Analyst collaborates on the creation and implementation of all Texas 2036 digital data products. The Data Analyst will also create, maintain, and support unique data analyses, visualizations, and dashboards used for internal research, topical reports, public presentations, blogs, social media posts and other data-driven products. An essential part of this work will involve coordinating with other Texas 2036 team members to conduct data analysis, ensuring alignment between data and policy and engaging external stakeholders to inform data set selection, visualization and communication.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support unique, best-in-class data tools that educate Texans about the state and the challenges it faces
- Support, implement and enhance existing and future Texas 2036 data products
- Conduct ad hoc analyses and create clear and compelling data visualizations and dashboards of data resources
- Closely collaborate with members of the policy and communications teams, as well as others in the organization, on data analysis, visualization and interpretation
- Research and write reports, blogs, presentations and other data and research products
- Organize and create user support resources and documentation such as data dictionaries, FAQs, etc. to support the end user experience
- Manage research and data projects with external partners or vendors, as aligned with expertise and experience
- Attend meetings with internal staff, data vendors, data collaboratives, conferences and Texas 2036 consultants and partners, as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned to help the organization achieve its long-term goals
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Terminal degree in Education Policy, Policy Studies, Sociology, Economics, Health Science, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Geospatial Sciences, or other discipline with substantial quantitative analysis and research methods training
- 3+ years of experience in data management, curation, analysis, documentation, and reporting
- Background and experience in data or research related to one of Texas 2036’s topic areas: education & workforce (preferred), health, infrastructure & natural resources, justice & safety, and government performance
- Proficiency in data management and analysis using statistical programming languages, such as R, SAS, or Stata
- Proficiency with data visualization and analysis using platforms such as Tableau, R or R Shiny, ArcGIS, or similar
- Highly motivated self-starter with strong, positive, “can do” attitude and motivation to explore new technologies
- Proven team player and collaborator with an innovative spirit and ability to multi-task
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly the ability to summarize technically complex information for a non-technical audience
- Data savvy personality with proven attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast paced environment while managing many simultaneous projects
- Desire to see Texas be the best place to live and work through 2036 and beyond
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-graduate degree (Master’s degree or higher)
- Background and experience in field related to Texas 2036 policy areas, particularly education and workforce
- Project and file management experience, including proficiency with platforms such as monday.com or Trello
- Experience working with publicly available datasets (e.g., Texas Education Agency, Texas Department of Information Resources, U.S. Census, Bureau of Labor Statistics)
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range for the position is $80,000-$100,000. Texas 2036 employees are eligible to participate in a number of company sponsored benefits including health, vision, and dental insurance with employee premiums paid by Texas 2036, cell phone stipend, and a 401k matching program. In addition, you will be entitled to generous paid time off, comp time, and paid parental leave policies. Location
Texas 2036 has offices in Dallas and Austin and has a flexible hybrid work policy. The Data Analyst position will be based in Texas 2036’s Austin office. This is a hybrid role and the Data Analyst will be expected to be present in the Austin office during the work day three days per week on average, though additional office days may be required as needed. The Data Analyst must be able to travel (up to 30% of the time) to cities across Texas for meetings with various stakeholders, including board members, advisors, stakeholders, partners and Texas 2036 colleagues.
