Summary 

Texas 2036 seeks a highly skilled and strategic Grant Writer to join our growing and dynamic development team. This individual will play a key role in securing and stewarding

philanthropic investments that support our mission. The Grant Writer will lead the drafting process for compelling proposals, grant reports and other materials that effectively communicate our impact to foundation, corporate and individual funders.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Development, the Grant Writer will work closely with colleagues from across the organization including the policy, data, communications and operations teams and other subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and coherence in all grant-related documentation.

This position requires exceptional writing skills, strategic thinking and the ability to synthesize complex policy work and development relationships context into persuasive narratives. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and has a deep appreciation for the power of public policy to improve lives and increase opportunities for all Texans.

Responsibilities

Grant Proposal Development & Submission:

  • Draft high-quality, customized grant proposals and LOIs that align funder priorities and Texas 2036’s mission and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders (policy, data, communications and finance) to gather and translate programmatic and impact information into compelling cases for support.
  • Develop and maintain a clear calendar of proposal deadlines, submission requirements and internal review timelines to ensure timely delivery.
  • Ensure all proposals align with the goals and objectives of Texas 2036, accurately represent the work and needs of the organization and have the necessary internal approvals before submission.

Grant Reporting & Stewardship:

  • Prepare and submit clear, accurate, and timely grant reports, managing narrative and financial components, in coordination with other internal teams.
  • Monitor grant deliverables and outcomes, ensuring compliance with funder expectations and grant agreements.
  • Coordinate stewardship efforts pertaining to funder updates and ongoing relationship management.

Funder Research & Strategy:

  • Conduct proactive research to identify prospective funders that align with Texas 2036’s strategic priorities.
  • Support the development of cultivation and solicitation strategies for new and existing funders.
  • Maintain an understanding of philanthropic trends relevant to policy and data-driven nonprofit work.

Collaboration & Organizational Support:

  • Work in close coordination with development team colleagues to align grant efforts with broader fundraising strategies.
  • Serve as a writing resource and advisor across the organization for related development communications and messaging.
  • Maintain accurate records in donor databases, tracking proposals, submissions and grant outcomes.
  • Support other fundraising and development activities as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and goals of Texas 2036.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in grant-writing and funder communications, ideally in a public policy, nonprofit or civic engagement context
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills with proven success in securing six-and seven-figure grants
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and manage across teams
  • Detail-oriented, organized and highly accountable
  • Experience with funder research tools, donor management systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge NXT), collaborative tools (e.g., GSuite and Microsoft Office), and grant interface platforms
  • Knowledge of and/or interest in Texas policy issues strongly preferred
  • Passion for Texas 2036’s mission and values

Compensation and Benefits 

Texas 2036 offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. The target salary range for this position is $70,000-$85,000. Employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision and dental insurance with employee premiums paid by Texas 2036, a cell phone stipend and a 401K matching program. Additionally, employees enjoy generous paid time-off and paid parental leave policies. Location

The Grant Writer will be based out of Texas 2036’s Austin office. This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office, with additional office days as needed. Travel across Texas (not to exceed 5%) may be necessary for meetings with stakeholders, including board members, advisors, funders, and colleagues.
