Texas 2036 uses data, research, and leading expertise to enable Texans to make informed decisions to ensure our state continues to be the best place to live and do business through its bicentennial in 2036 and beyond. Texas 2036 is achieving this mission through the creation of robust data resources, a long term state policy strategic framework, and a statewide, nonpartisan coalition of Texans advocating for meaningful long-term policy solutions. Summary 

Working with Texas 2036 colleagues, the Communications Manager will develop ways to tell Texas’ story based on data, trends and policy research that will raise awareness and inspire action by policymakers, the media, stakeholders, social media audiences, and the public. The Communications Manager will contribute to increasing our visibility and the understanding of our work and impact. The ideal candidate would be able to write well, post on social media through a social media management platform like SproutSocial, be able to design with Canva and Powerpoint, an ability to learn quickly or pick up formatting a newsletter in MailChimp and a website using WordPress and make quick edits to video.

Responsibilities 

The Communications Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Plan, investigate, write, and refine content for Texas 2036 that promotes our policies, data and mission across all channels
  • Research topics, collaborate with team members, and develop communications that present data and trends in the most engaging ways
  • Develop and create content across channels, including reports, issue papers, newsletters, emails, speeches, testimony, website content, blog posts, press releases, op-eds, social media, presentations and more 
  • Edit, fine-tune and spot-check communications
  • Perform other duties as assigned to help the organization achieve its long-term goals

Qualifications 

The ideal Communications Manager candidate will have a combination of the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience writing for a newsroom, government agency, nonprofit or business
  • Experience creating and publishing social media content, working on website content in WordPress, and developing reports and handouts 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, solid editorial judgment and the ability to write quickly and concisely
  • Knowledge of Texas history, government, media and culture preferred
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities
  • Highly motivated, self-starting with strong, positive, ‘can do’ attitude 
  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in a writing-intensive discipline
  • Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • A passion for helping Texas to be the best place to live and work through our bicentennial and beyond.

Compensation and Benefits  

Texas 2036 offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience. The target salary range for this position is $75,000 – 85,000. Employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, including health, vision and dental insurance with employee premiums paid by Texas 2036, a cell phone stipend, and a 401K matching program. Additionally, employees enjoy generous paid time-off and paid parental leave policies. Location 

The Communications Manager will be based out of Texas 2036’s Austin office. This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office, with additional office days as needed. Travel across Texas (not to exceed 5%) may be necessary for meetings with stakeholders, including board members, advisors, funders and colleagues.
